ENEC Certification
The ‘ENEC’ mark is a common European product certification mark based on testing to harmonised European safety standards.
It stands for ‘European Norms Electrical Certification’ – the number shown to the right of the mark merely identifying the CCA member, (17 in the case of Nemko).
Since its launch in 1991, the ‘ENEC’ mark has had remarkable success. To date more than 12,000 licences have been issued covering more than 30,000 different products.
Currently the ‘ENEC’ mark covers the following key areas:
1 Luminaires (EN 60598) and associated components (eg EN 60920, EN 60400, etc).
2 Transformers, (EN 60742, EN 61558).
3 Connectors and couplers (EN 60998, EN 60999, EN 60320).
4 Information technology equipment, (EN 60950).
5 Switches for appliances (EN 61058).
6 Controls (EN 60730).
7 Capacitors, filters and inductors (EN 132400, EN 133200, EN 138100).
Availability:
-
1-3 For these product types, the ENEC mark is restricted to European manufacturers only, (although the production site may be anywhere in the world).
-
4-7 There is no geographical limitation for products within this range.
Production Surveillance:
-
For manufacturers of luminaires, components and connectors, the quality system must comply with ISO 9002.
-
For manufacturers of other equipment, either the quality system has to comply with ISO 9002 or a factory inspection must be carried out twice a year, plus product surveillance checks.
Benefits:
-
Formally recognised in at least 20 European countries.
-
Demonstrates that the product has been independently tested to the relevant European safety standards.
-
Demonstrates that manufacturer’s quality system has been independently assessed.
-
Provides documentation for ‘CE’ marking purposes, under the Low Voltage Directive. |
